This dictionary was produced within the French national project EuRADic (European and Arabic Dictionaries and Corpora), as part of the Technolangue programme funded by the French Ministry of Industry.
A needs study in the field of sport terminology, which covered an overall category of users, led to a partial restructuring of an already existing database (English-French) and a re-evaluation of options. All choices were based on the results of this needs study, which clearly highlighted the impact of open corpora (Internet) and exploration tools for the production of dictionaries as well as for the carrying out of terminography activity.
The existing database (English-French) was subject to a systematic revision and updating with the following purposes:
• Spell checking
• Term production verification
The principles of terminology unit production were modified according to current technical progress. All nomenclature entries were subject to a systematic revision.
• Equivalence compliance verification
Equivalences were systematically checked and corrected (7,044 corrections or adjustments).
• Source verification
For reasons of scientific rigour (and right protection), sources and references that were exploited for each dictionary entry were systematically checked (40,000 verifications for a total of 11,256 modifications).
The results are presented in the form of MS ACCESS databases.
The current set consists of an English-French-Greek-Arabic-German-Spanish-Portuguese multilingual database:
This database contains a nomenclature of 37,500 entries for English, French, Greek and Arabic, 20,000 entries for Spanish, 22,000 for German and 10,000 for Portuguese. For each language, the contents consist of:
• Mandatory information: term, grammar
• Mandatory information except if not available (no source) : reference/source,
• Mandatory and common information: field (sport), domain, additional circumscription
• Optional information: definition and source, linguistic and source reference, combinatorics, other form, synonym

Ce dictionnaire a été produit dans le cadre du projet national français EuRADic (Dictionnaire et corpus européens et arabe), du programme Technolangue, financé par le ministère français de l'industrie.
Une étude du besoin terminologique dans le domaine des sports, couvrant l’ensemble des catégories d’utilisateurs, a conduit à une refonte partielle de l’existant (base anglais-français) et à une réévaluation des options. Tous les choix effectués se fondent sur les résultats de cette étude du besoin, qui a notamment fait ressortir clairement l’impact des corpus ouverts (Internet) et des outils d’exploration sur la conception des dictionnaires et la conduite de l’activité terminographique.
La base existante (anglais-français) a fait l’objet d’une révision et mise à niveau systématique avec les objectifs suivants :
• Vérifications orthographiques
• Contrôle de la formation des termes
Les principes de formation des unités terminologiques étant modifiés pour tenir compte des progrès techniques, l’ensemble des entrées de la nomenclature a fait l’objet d’une révision systématique.
• Contrôle d’adéquation des équivalences
Les équivalences ont été systématiquement vérifiées et corrigées (7 044 corrections ou ajustements).
• Vérification des sources
Dans un souci de rigueur scientifique (et de protection des droits) les sources et références exploitées pour chaque entrée du dictionnaire ont été systématiquement vérifiées (40 000 vérifications pour un total de 11 256 modifications).
Les résultats obtenus se présentent sous la forme de bases de données MS ACCESS.
Le présent ensemble est constitué d’une base multilingue anglais – français – grec – arabe – allemand – espagnol – portugais :
Cette base comporte une nomenclature de 37 500 entrées pour l’anglais, le français, le grec, et l’arabe, 28 000 pour l’espagnol, 22 000 pour l’allemand et 10 000 pour le portugais. Les contenus sont, pour chaque langue :
• Informations obligatoires : terme, grammaire,
• Informations obligatoires sauf si indisponibles (pas de sources) : référence/source,
• Informations obligatoires et communes : champ (sport), domaine, circonscription additionnelle
• Informations facultatives : définition et source, note linguistique et source, combinatoire, autre forme, synonyme
